Reeves: U.K. to make big effort in sealing EU ties
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said the UK would make a bigger push to deepen its economic ties with the European Union, as Keir Starmer’s new Labour government seeks a reset in relations with the bloc after the years of Conservative-led acrimony in the aftermath of Brexit.
“We will be more ambitious in taking practical steps to strengthen our economic relationship, benefiting both the UK and the EU,” Reeves said to the Eurogroup meeting of European finance ministers in Brussels. “We want to and we will seek a deeper, more mature relationship with our European neighbors.”
An attempt to mend ties with the EU has been one of the key features of Starmer’s foreign policy since he won power in July.
