BOULDER COUNTY

Chicken coop burned down near Lafayette

A fire at a chicken coop that occurred early Wednesday morning in unincorporated Boulder County east of Boulder and near Lafayette was classified as a total loss.

The fire was reported just after midnight in the 8300 block of Arapahoe Road, according to a news release.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office officials said when deputies arrived, they “located an outbuilding fully engulfed in flames.” The fire was near a home and a large barn, but fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire, according to the release.

A resident later told deputies that the outbuilding was a 10-foot-by-12-foot chicken coop housed with six chickens and said there was a heat lamp inside the coop.

The coop was considered a total loss, but the fire did not affect any of the nearby structures, according to the release.

Chickens inside the coop did not survive, according to Mountain View Fire Rescue spokesperson Rick Tillery.

Tillery said the fire was caused due to an electrical fault to the heating lamp inside the chicken coop.
