In a week where many of the local teams took a break, others found ways to earn their first wins. Prospect Ridge, Legacy and Frederick all broke through into the win column, as local teams tallied a collective 7-6 record through nine games.

Thursday

Broomfield 51, Rocky Mountain 7: The Eagles maintained their dominant streak, this time punching the Lobos in the mouth on the road. Senior quarterback Darien Jackson stamped his name into the scorebook with four passing touchdowns, as Colin Torres, CT Worley, Colin Underly, Grisham Lemley, Mikhail Benner, Joe Larsen and Gio Toledo got in on the scoring action themselves.

The 3-0 Eagles will head home on Friday to take on Legacy.

Prospect Ridge Academy 24, Jefferson 22: The Miners marked down their first win of the season (1-2) by outflanking the Saints on the scoreboard, despite collecting fewer yards on the run and in the air. Senior Machaon Puga led the ground game with 102 yards and all three touchdowns, then recorded five sacks on the defensive end. Sophomore Elliott Hoyland added a 34-yard field goal.

The Miners will return home next Saturday to face off with Roaring Fork.

Legacy 34, Grandview 27: The Lightning staged a mass comeback in the final minutes, scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter alone, and owed nearly all of that success to the passing game. Quarterback Andrew Gardner tossed 219 yards and three touchdowns to Peyton Studebaker, Dominic Mezarina and Tyler Anderson, who also scored twice on short runs.

The Lightning (1-2) will head a few miles to Broomfield on Friday for their crosstown rivalry.

Friday

Fairview 56, Boulder 0: Fairview’s quarterback Ki Ellison tossed 176 yards, including two touchdowns as Luke Strickland (107 yards, two TDs), Luka Teodoru, Jordan Rechel (96 yards), Ryder Villarreal, Brock Kolstad and backup QB Jett Howard found paths into the end zone themselves.

The Knights (3-0) will hit the road to Monarch next Friday, while Boulder (1-2) heads back home to host Horizon.

Frederick 43, Skyline 9: The Golden Eagles put up 28 points in the first half alone, countering just a field goal from the Falcons. Skyline junior quarterback Servando Morales ended his night with 131 passing yards, 63 of which went to Jamal Gilliam. Tysheay Harrison (touchdown) and Rodrick Hobbs (46-yard field goal) put up the only points for the Falcons.

Frederick (1-2) heads to Montbello on Saturday and Skyline (0-3) will make the long trip to Pueblo South on Thursday.

Skyview 14, Niwot 6: The Wolverines and Cougars put all of their scoring eggs in the first-half basket, with Niwot scoring its lone touchdown and then failing on the 2-point conversion midway through the second quarter.

The Cougars (0-3) will search for their first win on Thursday night at Wheat Ridge.

Silver Creek 28, Longmont 20: The Raptors focused most of their scoring initiative into a 21-point third quarter, then relied on their defense to carry them to victory despite some second-half pushback from the Trojans. Kolby Holmes returned to the pocket after missing some time due to injury, throwing for 252 yards and two scores to Jacob and Joey Foot. The elder Foot, Joey, adding a rushing TD to his totals.

Silver Creek (2-1) hosts Bear Creek on Friday as Longmont (0-3) welcomes Palmer Ridge on Thursday.

Vail Christian 28, Lyons 12: The Lions, having graduated a large chunk of last year’s talent as well as their head coach, are still searching for that special recipe to put them into the win column. They pulled closer to reaching that mark against the Saints but will face an even tougher test at Merino next Saturday.

Monarch 35, Centaurus 19: The Coyotes planted themselves firmly back in the win column after last week’s hiatus (thanks to a 46-0 pounding from Broomfield), outpacing the Warriors at the start and finish with 14 points in both the first and fourth quarters. Centaurus, meanwhile, faced its first significant pushback of the season as both teams now sit at 3-1.

The Warriors will make the short trip to Mountain Range next Friday as Monarch hosts Fairview on the same night.
