Maxime Raynaud scored 26 points, including a spectacular follow slam with 8.7 seconds left, and Stanford defeated SMU 73-68 on Saturday.
The Mustangs had a 13-0 run to erase a 10-point deficit and take a 60-57 lead midway through the second half. But after Chuck Harris hit a jumper for a 68-67 lead with 3:35 remaining, SMU missed its last four shots and had a critical turnover.
Benny Gealer and Oziyah Sellers both scored to put the Cardinal up 71-68 with 2:18 to play. It was late in the shot clock when Ryan Agarwal put up a desperation 3-pointer for Stanford and as the ball bounced high off the rim Raynaud flew in unimpeded from behind the arc for the game-sealing basket.
Gealer, who made 5 of 6 3-pointers, had 17 points for the Cardinal (19-10, 11-7 ACC), whose 16-2 record at Maples Pavilion marked its most home wins since 2014-15.
Harris scored 17 points for the Mustangs (21-8, 12-6). Kario Oquendo added 15 points and Matt Cross had 13.
Santa Clara 97, Pacific 64 >> Christoph Tilly led the way with a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double and Santa Clara ran away from Pacific on Saturday.
Elijah Mahi had 13 points and five assists, Adama-Alpha Bal added 13 points and Carlos Stewart Jr. had 12 for the Broncos (20-11, 12-6 WCC), who finished fourth in the WCC.
Women
Gonzaga 68, Santa Clara 61 >> Hannah Rapp recorded her second career double-double and Kaya Ingram added 16 points, but Santa Clara couldn’t overcome its slow start to the second half vs. Gonzaga on Saturday.
Rapp finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos (14-16, 8-12 WCC), who dropped their fourth consecutive game and their fifth of six to close the regular season. They led 31-30 at halftime but allowed the Bulldogs (22-9, 17-3) to score the first eight points of the third quarter and never led again.
Allie Turner made 9 of 10 shots from the field, including 5 of 6 from 3, en route to a game-high 23 points for the Zags, who claimed the WCC crown via head-to-head tiebreaker over Portland.
USF 60, San Diego 35 >> Freja Werth scored a season-high 30 points to go with 10 rebounds and San Francisco earned a season-ending win over San Diego with a stifling defensive performance, holding the Toreros to six points in the first quarter and no more than 11 in any period.
Loyola Marymount 65, Santa Clara 61 >> Abigail Shoff sank a 3-pointer to tie the score with 55 seconds left, but Saint Mary’s lost a nailbiter at Loyola Marymount on Saturday.
Maya Hernandez (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Naudia Evans (18 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists) led the way for the Lions (13-15, 7-13), who forced the Gaels (14-15, 10-10) into an offensive foul on their next possession to seal the win after the teams traded leads seven times.
