Newsom’s plan to Trump-proof California’s policies
One thing I recall in my 78 years of presidential elections was the gracious acceptance of the losing party, a commitment to support the “will of the people” and the continued success of our nation. Today I am in awe of the Democratic governors who have instead made a commitment to block any action proposed by the future administration with which they don’t agree. This plan is especially aggravating as my governor, Gavin Newsom is seeking our tax dollars to finance his campaign to interfere with the administration that was elected by both the electoral college and the popular vote. (His spending has already taken us from a one hundred-billion-dollar surplus to a seventy-five-billion dollar deficit.) I would ask the governor to read the history of the “Nullification Crisis” and see how that worked out for them.

The election
Congratulations to the over half of our country who voted for Donald Trump! Let’s see how you feel in a couple years when his policies have gone into effect: When they round up all the immigrants, tell me who is going to pick your fruits and vegetables? Who’s going to work in the meat processing plants or in restaurants? How about cleaning your homes and office buildings? And the list goes on and on. And the tariffs he wants to impose? Get ready for the price of cars and trucks to go up, since many parts come from out of this country. In fact, everything that has a tariff coming into our country will cost more. Just one thing. I for one don’t want to hear any crying or moaning. You voted for him!

Wilson’s insulting spin
Re “Zen and a need not to be sunshine journalists” (Nov. 10):
Larry Wilson epitomizes the attitude that allowed Trump to win. “The best people, quite clearly, are college-educated women. Smart. Worldly.” The condescension is palpable. He talks about blue states as “creative, beautiful, resource-rich, well-read” as if red states do not have those attributes. I never went to college. I appreciate and address by name any plumber, electrician, painter, gardener I hire. I don’t need safe spaces or trigger warnings as colleges have adopted. I live in my world where other-than-college-educated women are equal.
