Three people face felony charges Tuesday after being accused of being in a vehicle with 20 kilos of cocaine valued over $1 million, according to a Will County Sheriff's office statement.
Jorge Vargas-Moreno, 31, of Chicago; Bulmaro Castelan-Diaz, 35, of Chicago; and Yolanda Tavira-Berrum, 22, of LaSalle, are charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance after Will County Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle they were in about 8:20 p.m. Monday, the statement said.
The vehicle had allegedly crossed the center line three times in the area of Monee-Manhattan Road near the intersection of Harlem Avenue in Green Garden Township, it said.
The driver, Vargas-Moreno “appeared nervous and was trembling as deputies were speaking with him,” the statement said.
Deputies called the K-9, Roxy, which conducted a sniff search and discovered narcotics near the rear trunk area of the car, it said.
The Will County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Unit allegedly discovered the cocaine-wrapped bricks with a street value of $1.125 million, it said.
The three are being held in Will County jail. Bond was set Tuesday at $1.5 million each. Their next scheduled court date is May 26.
