San Marin sophomore David Coronado continues to shadow over the MCAL heavyweight division after his commanding effort to seal the Mustangs’ 44-35 duals victory over the Trojans on Wednesday.
With the Mustangs leading by three points entering the final match, Coronado (287) pinned Terra Linda’s Arturo Gomez in 1 minute, 30 seconds. If Gomez had won, it would have give the Trojans the win and altered the MCAL standings. San Marin remains undefeated at 4-0 in MCAL duals, with Terra Linda right behind at 3-2.
Mustangs freshman Collin Taaffe (140) showed mat intelligence beyond his years with Terra Linda junior Kaden Pace in a minute flat. San Marin junior Luke Miller (128) pinned Santiago De La Rosa, and the Mustangs’ Sebastian McLean (122) earned a 11-9 decision.
The Trojans’ battled tough, with key wins by freshman Kai Probst (134), juniors Eric Jimenez (152) and Lazslo Chaffee (177) and senior Tristan Collins (192), all by pinfall. The Trojans’ Arthur Sepan (146) scored an impressive technical fall over San Marin’s Levi Manville.
• Tam High benefitted from a couple of key wins on the mat and six forfeits in a 46-36 victory over rival Redwood during Wednesday’s dual in Larkspur. Tam’s Cole Mapp (177) pinned the Giants’ Kaito Naka, and Dylan Van Doren (146) earned a major decision. Redwood won six of eight matches by pinfall. Giants sophomore Dylan Morton, ranked in the top five in the NCS, pinned Tam’s Tyrell Smith in a 134-pound clash. The Giants got pinfall wins from freshmen Sol Strasburg (108) and Ayaan Nasser (115), junior Hayden Schepps (152), as well as NCS-ranked wrestlers Jake Heravi (159) and Alexander Berkowitz (167).

Joseph Rodriguez scored a goal about 10 minutes in for Terra Linda (5-5-2, 3-2-1) but San Marin (5-5-4, 1-3-2) found the equalizer about 15 minutes later as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw Wednesday. TL pulled level with Branson on 10 points for third place in the standings, behind Archie Williams and Redwood. San Marin is two points behind Tam and Marin Catholic (7 points) in the race for the final two playoff spots. Novato and San Rafael, both on four points, remain alive in the playoff chase.
• Archie Williams continued its torrid scoring pace in a 5-0 road win at San Rafael (4-9-3, 1-4-1) on Wednesday night. The Peregrine Falcons (8-3-3, 5-0-1) have scored 16 goals in their past three games and sit two points clear in first place with a game in hand. Archie Williams could wrap up the league title with a win against Tam on Tuesday or a win or tie against Redwood in the season finale.
• Ike Gebhard and Sam Gersch scored to lift Redwood to a 2-1 victory against Tam (6-5-4, 2-3-1 MCAL) on Wednesday. Gebhard scored directly off a free kick for Redwood (6-2-4, 4-1-2) and Gersch was assisted by Van Bowers.
• Ben DePalma scored the lone goal of the game as Novato (1-7-1, 1-4-1) registered its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory against Branson (5-6-4, 3-3-1).
