Five Macomb County volleyball teams kept their seasons alive last week with volleyball district championships.
Below is a recap of who’s still alive in the chase for a state title:
FRASER WINS DISTRICT 30
After going through Fitzgerald and Sterling Heights without dropping a set, the Ramblers took on the host Chippewa Valley Big Reds.
After winning the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-22, the Ramblers suddenly saw themselves facing a must-win fifth set after Chippewa Valley bounced back to win sets three and four, 25-16 and 25-21. But Fraser finished the job with a decisive fifth, winning 15-5 to claim a district crown.
Lauren Sergent, Sam Smith and Marissa Gutow were all perfect serving for the Ramblers, combining for 43 points and nine aces between them. Payton Hill led them with 23 kills for the match.
EISENHOWER WINS DISTRICT 31
Eisenhower defeated Troy, 3-1, then Troy Athens, 3-0, in the district championship to win their third-straight district crown.
ROMEO WINS DISTRICT 32
The Romeo Bulldogs’ journey through their district saw them take down Anchor Bay, L’Anse Creuse North and finally Dakota to win the district championship.
REGINA WINS DISTRICT 58
The Regina Saddlelites and Lutheran North Mustangs met for a third time this season, and for a third time the Saddlelites emerged victorious, 14-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-21.
Amanda Vushaj made a huge impact in her first game back from a broken arm, swatting 17 kills to lead the team. Calista Mastry added 11 kills and Lilly Zdankiewicz had 11. Marissa Vushaj was a menace at the net with eight blocks.
