


CASTROVILLE >> One person has died following a shooting near the Castroville Post Office Thursday evening, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received a report of gunfire at approximately 8:56 p.m. and responded to the scene. Two individuals had already self-transported to a local hospital for treatment before deputies arrived. They later confirmed that one of the victims succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A possible crime scene was located in the parking lot behind the Castroville Market at 10696 Merritt St. The Sheriff’s Office has not released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is being treated as a homicide and remains active. Officials are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be directed to Sergeant Daniel Hopkins at 831-225-4883.
