Virginia Nogueira Joyce passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2024, in San Jose, California.

She was 73 years old. Virginia was born on March 26, 1951, at the Arnaldo de Moraes Health and Maternity Center (now Sao Lucas Hospital), in the Copacabana neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

Virginia was the daughter of Julio Nogueira Junior and Helena de Oliveira Lima Nogueira and grew up in the Leblon neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro with her family.

Virginia was married to Regozino Faria (m. 1971 – d.

1976), Lonnie Ray Spencer (m. 1976 – d. 1986) and Robert Kevin Joyce (m. 1986). Virginia left Brasil and moved to California with her second husband in July of 1976.

Virginia attended Universidade do Brasil – Rio de Janeiro - 1969 to 1971 (Psychology), Foothill College in Los Altos – 1977 to 1979 (AA), and Santa Clara University –1979 to 1981 (BS –Economics). She met her husband Bob in an economics class at Santa Clara University and they later married on March 7, 1986. Virginia became a United States citizen on June 13, 2007, but always remained a Brasilian (dual) citizen. Virginia and Bob had one daughter – Vanessa Joyce – whom they lovingly raised in Santa Clara, CA.

After graduating from Santa Clara University, Virginia began work at Crocker Bank. Virginia was later a branch manager at both Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of the West, with most of those years working in downtown Los Gatos, CA. Virginia worked in banking for 43 years in both Brasil and California and retired November 23, 2021.

Virginia was a voracious reader; especially fiction. Virginia and Bob traveled consistently to Brasil. They also enjoyed trips to England, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, Italy, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Virginia and Bob were frequent movie companions and always preferred the movie theater experience. She loved music, especially Brasilian music from the 1960s and 1970s. Virginia was the collector of all things cute. Virginia was an exceptionally smart person hiding behind a warm, funny and silly personality.

Virginia was very kind to everyone and generous with those who had less. Virginia was an exceptional mother who gave affection freely. She always knew how to make her daughter and husband laugh, to remind them that life shouldn’t always be so serious. Virginia will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Bob, and her loving daughter Vanessa Joyce of Los Angeles. Virginia is the oldest offour siblings and is also survived by her brothers, Julio Lima Nogueira (Raquel), Marcio Lima Nogueira (Tania), her sister, Matilde Nogueira (Luiz), and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Areception will follow from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, all at Darling &Fischer Chapel of the Hills, 615 NSanta Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, CA 95030.
