North Pool at 1650 S. Indiana St. is scheduled to undergo renovations later this year, and residents can give feedback on what improvements they would like to see there. The Superior Town Council unanimously agreed in a meeting earlier this week to award a renovation construction project to Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture in Denver.

The project will include fully renovating North Pool. The contract, with a budget not to exceed $440,000, is to design North Pool renovation, evaluate South Pool at 3300 Huron Peak Ave., and hold public engagement meetings for both pools.

The contract was originally for the design of North Pool and public engagement for just under $400,000. The council added more funding to evaluate South Pool to help city staffers and residents get a better idea of the renovations needed at the pool.

The contract award with Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture includes the architecture firm collecting feedback for pool improvements from residents, swim teams and swimming lesson providers. The feedback sessions will also ask for input on South Pool, which is anticipated to undergo future renovations.

Hayes said an open house to collect feedback on pool renovations is expected to take place April 16, during the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting. There will also be an online survey.

Jordan Hayes, a project manager in Superior, said staffers have replaced and repaired various mechanical and sanitation systems at North Pool to ensure it meets aquatic safety standards. But Hayes now recommends a full renovation of North Pool to meet the operation and safety needs of the pool, as well as more efficient mechanical and sanitation systems. North Pool was built over 30 years ago.

Hayes said the 165,000-gallon, eight-lane pool is a “big hit” with residents, and it is available for general open swimming, local swim teams and swimming lessons. She said the pool had several thousands of visits last year. According to the agenda, North Pool had about 8,000 open swim visits, 360 swim lesson visits and 9,700 swim team visits in 2024.

Construction in North Pool is expected to begin in August after this summer season, with the pool expected to reopen in May 2026.
