Hatsui Castellano, a long-time resident of Seaside, California, has died at 98 years old.

Hatsui, sometimes known as Mama Rose, was born in Japan in 1926. She grew up there through World War II and in 1954 met Baceleo (Cass) Castellano, a career U.S.

Army soldier stationed in Japan. They married and after a tour of duty in Hawaii moved to California in 1961 when Cass was transferred to Fort Ord. Hatsui is predeceased by her husband, Baceleo, and is survived by her daughter, Patricia and her sons, Jay and Danny. She is also survived by two sisters in Japan; her son-in-law, Richard; daughters-in-law, Sandra and Kim; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 25th at 1:30pm at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey.
