Highland Police are investigating a shots-fired incident in a normally quiet condominium complex Wednesday morning.
Police spokesman Cmdr. John Banasiak said several calls came in around 10:12 a.m. of shots fired in the 2000-2100 block of 45th Street, known to residents as Port de L’Eau Court, on the Highland-Munster border, Banasiak said. Police on the scene determined several rounds were fired and detectives are investigating.
No injuries were reported.
Port de L’Eau resident Tami Ciesielski said she was getting ready to leave for work when she heard the shots outside her second-floor home. She ran on to her balcony to see what was going on.
“I saw the car heading northbound (on Port de L’eau Court), and then I assume it turned right on the service road there to get back out,” Ciesielski said, pointing to the T in the road. “It was a small maroon car — like a two-door Honda Civic — that I’d never seen. I’ve lived here 16 years, so I know the cars that belong here usually.
“If I’d have walked out, I’d have been in the line of fire.”
Ciesielski’s neighbor, Cassandra Heuertz, said she saw the car Ciesielski described Tuesday afternoon.
“I was in the pool with a friend, and we saw that car driving by slowly. I was like, ‘I’ve never seen that car here before,’ ” Heuertz said. “There was one person inside and he rolled the car window down — he was young, wearing sunglasses — looked around and then he took off.”
Ciesielski said the complex, other than “a few domestic situations,” is normally quiet.
Banasiak said police believe there’s no threat to the community.
