


Avery Myerberg knocked down 10 3-pointers during a career-high 40-point night as The Branson School beat Sonoma Academy, 58-40, on Saturday in a non-league matchup. Alyssa Huang added 12 points with three 3-pointers, and Paige Macy grabbed nine rebounds and two points.
The Bulls (14-11, 4-4), seeded fifth in the MCAL playoffs, are scheduled to play No. 4 Tam in Monday’s opening round. No. 6 Archie Williams faves No. 3 San Marin in the other first-round matchup Monday.
Boys basketball
San Marin rolled past non-league foe Petaluma, 80-29, in Saturday’s regular-season finale. The Mustangs (14-12) are now preparing for the North Coast Section seeding.
• Roman Yusupov scored 15 points and Jack Ellis added 12 points as St. Vincent de Paul beat Averroes, 71-28, on Saturday. George Chaput and Tyler Chelew scored eight points each for the Mustangs (17-9). St. Vincent kicks off the North Bay League playoffs on Wednesday at Piner.
Prep wrestling
Seventh-seeded San Marin ran into a juggernaut in the Mustangs’ opening match during the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Division II duals tournament. The Mustangs lost to eventual champion Del Norte, 78-3, then fell to No. 6 American Canyon in the consolation bracket.
MCAL champion Tamalpais, seeded ninth, walked over No. 8 Arcata, 69-0, in the opening round, but then lost 69-12 to finalist Windsor, the tournament’s top seed. Tam lost to No. 4 Piner, 47-29, in the consolation round.
Marin wrestlers now prepare for the MCAL individual championships on Feb. 15 at Novato High, before advancing to the NCS championships. The NCS boys tournament will be held at James Logan High, while the girls tournament is hosted by Albany High, both Feb. 21-22.
Boys soccer
San Domenico wrapped up the regular season with a 0-0 draw at home against Urban on Saturday. The result was enough to allow the Panthers (4-7-3, 2-6-2 BCL West) to clinch the league’s fourth and final playoff spot. San Domenico travels to top-seeded Marin Academy for a 3:15 p.m. game on Wednesday.
Women’s basketball
Dominican University rode its defense and solid rebounding for the second straight game to a 64-41 home victory Saturday afternoon over Biola. Taylor Linzie had her second straight double-double for the Penguins (17-9, 11-4 PacWest) with 14 points and 23 rebounds. Alaiyah San Juan also scored 14 points while dishing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds.
Men’s basketball
Jorge Ochoa scored a team-high 14 points for the Penguins, but Dominican University lost to Biola, 72-65, in Saturday’s nip-and-tuck contest. Thomas Oosterbroek was right behind him with 12 points to go along with six rebounds.
Youth track
San Rafael’s Ellie McCuskey-Hay captured the California high school winter championship in the 60 meter sprint on Saturday at Arcadia. McCuskey-Hay, with the Marin Waves Track Club, ran the 60-meter in a personal-best 7.49 seconds.
She took home four medals in all, as she placed second in the long jump (18 feet, 8.25 inches), fourth in the 300 (39.59) and sixth in the 150 (18.08), all personal best marks.
Teammate Indeya Sanders placed 40th in the 300 (42.56) in the girls high school division.
