SCOTTS VALLEY >> With the final vote totals still far from being tallied for Santa Cruz County elections, the race for three seats on Scotts Valley City Council appeared to have prominent leaders after the initial vote counts.

According to an update of the vote count early Wednesday morning, incumbent Donna Lind will likely keep her seat behind the dais with 2,809 votes tallied for her or about 23% of the total.

“I’ve received many texts, calls and emails today from people congratulating me and thanking me for continuing to serve the community,” said Lind. “It has really been heartwarming to have felt so much love and appreciation.”

She added, “I look forward to working with newly elected council members and sharing my experience. The city is facing many challenges in the upcoming years. I look forward to working with fellow council members and staff to address the housing mandates, the town center, fiscal recovery and more.”

Retired Santa Cruz police Deputy Chief Steve Clark received 2,327 votes so far or about 19% of the total, and nurse Krista Jett is following closely behind with 2,197, or about 18% of the initial vote count.

Food sales representative Corky Roberson received 1,468 votes or about 12% of the total.
