SAN JOSE — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in a shooting at an occupied vehicle last month that investigators believe was a gang-motivated attack, police said.

The shooting was reported May 14 around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Tosca Court and Tosca Way, in the area of Alvin Avenue and Flanigan Drive in East San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department.

Surveillance video footage obtained and released by police Monday shows a teen boy fire multiple shots toward a target off-camera, which police said was a man traveling in a vehicle.

While the vehicle was struck by bullets multiple times, the man narrowly avoided being hit in the head and police said no one was injured in the shooting. Police described the attack as “gang-motivated” but did not elaborate on the circumstances of the shooting in a Monday news release.

The shooter captured on video fled the area before police arrived, but police with the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit “immediately identified the suspect as a 14-year-old gang member from the city of San Jose,” according to the news release.

Police said on June 15, the department’s Violent Crimes Enforcement Team found the teen in San Jose, and he ran off and ditched a gun in his attempt to escape, but he was arrested. Officers reported recovering a Glock pistol with a 22-round extended magazine, and police said the handgun had been reported stolen in Reno, Nevada.

The 14-year-old boy was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and gun crimes, according to police.
