Mountain View Fire Rescue crews extinguished a small grass fire off Billings Avenue, west of Erie, Monday afternoon.
According to MVFR spokesman Rick Tillery, crews were called to a field near Billings Avenue and 119th Street for a grass fire just after noon on Monday. The blaze, which reached about 2 acres in size, was put out by firefighters before an investigation into the cause began.
No damage to structures has been reported, according to a post on Facebook.
Monday’s flareup occurred on an unseasonably warm, dry and breezy day on which the National Weather Service recorded occasional wind gusts as high as 40 mph. Temperatures in the county Monday reached about 70 by mid-afternoon.
The Erie area fire was the second grass fire Mountain View Fire Rescue crews extinguished in two days.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, MVFR firefighters responded to a small grass fire along the Diagonal Highway, near Pebble Court in Niwot. According to a post on Facebook, above ground power lines came down and started arcing, which sparked a small fire. The fire then grew to be 20 feet-by-100 feet along a ditch.
While crews responded to the fire, an additional power arc nearby caused another small fire in a backyard.
Crews extinguished both fires and no structures were damaged, according to the post.
