Southwesterly winds and abundant sunshine boosted Chicago area temps into the upper 80s and lower 90s Wednesday afternoon. A lake breeze front developed and moved inland passing O’Hare and triggering late afternoon and early evening thunderstorms over western portions of the Chicago area. Some of the stronger storms had heavy downpours and large hail – St. Charles observed 1.05 inches of rain in 15 minutes and Hanover Park reported ping-pong sized hailstones. Temps will warm into the lower 90s Thursday and an upper air disturbance will track across Wisconsin and northern Illinois with another round of thunderstorms likely later afternoon into the overnight hours. It will get even warmer and more humid Saturday and Sunday into Monday with highs reaching into the middle 90s.
