UMass Lowell head baseball coach Nick Barese has announced a new addition to the coaching staff for the 2025 season.

Assistant coach Tyler Fitzgerald comes to Lowell after previously coaching at Keene State College and Southern New Hampshire University.

“We are incredibly fortunate to bring Tyler into our coaching staff. He brings an exceptional work ethic, baseball knowledge, and experience at both the college and pro levels,” said Barese. “We’ve personally seen Tyler’s dedication to recruiting and development over the years as a coach in the region and now we are excited to add his skill to the River Hawk baseball program. He’s a perfect fit for what we are building towards, and I am extremely confident that not only will our pitching staff improve, but our program as a whole.”

In 2020, Fitzgerald graduated from Keene State, where he played baseball as a pitcher for two seasons. Prior, Fitzgerald played at Salem State and Southern Maine before transferring to Keene State.

Returning a year later upon his graduation, Fitzgerald would get the opportunity to become a pitching coach for his former team from 2021-23. Fitzgerald helped improve the Owls’ record each season.

Following the 2023 season, Fitzgerald took a similar role at Southern New Hampshire University, serving as a recruiting coordinator/pitching coach.

Drop the puck

The UMass Lowell hockey team will travel to Waltham on Sunday to play an exhibition game against Bentley University as the team continues to gear up for the 2024-25 season.

The River Hawks held their annual Blue-White scrimmage at the Tsongas Center over the weekend. Led by senior Owen Cole, White skated to a 4-3 victory. Cole netted a pair of goals, while sophomore Jak Vaarwerk and freshman Dominick Rivelli also found the back of the net for the winners.
