A male bicyclist was fatally struck in a hit-and-run collision Saturday by a person suspected of driving under the influence in Hemet.

Police responded around 5:30 p.m. to multiple 911 calls regarding a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle in the area of Domenigoni Parkway and State Street.

The man was found dead on the roadway by the time officers arrived, the Hemet Police Department said in a news release.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was riding a bicycle on Domenigoni when struck. Several bystanders provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle to police after the driver fled.

The driver was found shortly after and refused to stop, leading to a three-minute pursuit. The driver was taken into custody.

Authorities believe the driver was under the influence when the fatal collision occurred.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details were released.
