The Indiana Department of Transportation said Monday there will be a lengthy road closure on Indiana 51 and Indiana 130, just north of the $2.75 million roundabout that opened last year.

The state said the closure would begin April 14 or shortly after.

During the closure, traffic will not be able to exit north or west from the roundabout.

The affected area is a small portion of roadway between Indiana 51 (Cleveland Avenue) and Hickey Street.

The road will first be closed through early May for the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. to complete gas line relocation work.

Once that project is completed, INDOT contractor Superior Construction Co Inc. will close the road for a culvert replacement at Frog Creek through early August.

During these closures, INDOT contractor Milestone Contractors North Inc. will also be making repairs at the roundabout. An INDOT spokeswoman said motorists damaged it while navigating the roundabout.

The official detour will follow U.S. 6 and Indiana 149 or Interstate 94, Interstate 65 and U.S. 30.
