United Way for Southeastern Michigan and Ballmer Group announced that enrollment is open for the second year of the Summer Discovery enrichment program. The program provides free, summer learning experiences for K-8 students, including STEM projects and coding, outdoor adventures and field trips, music, art and sports.

The program is nearly doubling in size from its first year, and is set to serve more than 32,000 K-8 students at 188 sites across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. The expansion is made possible through a $60 million investment from Ballmer Group Philanthropy, with the goal to improve educational outcomes and help close opportunity gaps for students in Southeast Michigan, according to a press release from United Way.

Twenty school sites across Oakland County will offer the program to Oakland County students, and enrollment is open now, at most sites. Parents can explore participating schools and community-based organizations in their area by visiting the Summer Discovery website and Site Finder at https://unitedwaysem.org/resources/summer-discovery.
