Woodland City Council passed a proclamation earlier this week recognizing the month of May to be Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

According to the proclamation, the theme for the 2025 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI) is “A Legacy of Leadership Resilience.”

“This year’s theme honors the hard work of AANHPI leaders who established a foundation for future generations to thrive and adapt to change and adversity,” states the proclamation.

The proclamation continues: “Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders have always been an important part of our civic community, having made substantial contributions towards making the city of Woodland and our Nation more secure throughout its history.”

Additionally, city council members passed another proclamation declaring May to be “Older Americans Month.”

As stated in the proclamation, “Older Americans Month” is a time to celebrate and recognize older adults to acknowledge aging trends and reaffirm the commitment to supporting older members of the community.

The theme this year is “Flip the Script on Aging.” The theme serves as a way to invite the community to transform the way aging is viewed by “challenging stereotypes, breaking down barriers and highlighting the dynamic, vibrant lives led by older adults in our community.”

“The city of Woodland proudly recognizes the diverse experiences, talents, and wisdom of our older residents, who enrich our city as family members, neighbors, volunteers, workers, mentors, and leaders,” the proclamation states. “This year’s theme encourages all Woodlanders to celebrate the opportunities that aging brings — including continued learning, community involvement, creativity, and meaningful connections — and to work together to create an inclusive and age-friendly environment for people of all generations.”

The city of Woodland will be hosting a free Senior resource fair on Thursday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Woodland Community & Senior Center. This event will feature programs and services available to older adults in Woodland and throughout Yolo County.

There will be vendors from different departments such as health care, assisted living facilities, health and fitness, support groups, social services, and much more.
