The popular Eastpointe Summer Concert Series kicks off June 26, 6 p.m. at Spindler Park with the Shamrock Jazz Orchestra.
This year, the six concerts will be held at four different venues: Spindler Park, Eastpointe City Hall, Kennedy Park and the Eastpointe Memorial Library.
“We are doing the different locations this year because RARE does its Rockin’ Summer Night and we are partnering with them on that,” said Eastpointe Economic Development Director Ian McCain.
McCain said the Shamrock Jazz Orchestra requested the Spindler Park venue because it offered more shade for musicians and the audience.
“Last year they played at City Hall where there is no canopy and several of the band members got very roasty,” said McCain. “The way the stage is set up there, the band is facing the sun at that time of day too, so that is why the move to Spindler Park.”
The Shamrock Jazz Orchestra was formed by several East Detroit High School band and orchestra alumni and plays a wide selection of music from Chicago to Led Zeppelin to Frank Sinatra.
Sound Proof Band plays at the Eastpointe Memorial Library on July 10, 6-8 p.m. Their high-energy music includes Motown, blues, jazz, R&B and dance tunes.
Eastpointe City Hall is the spot for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra String Quartet July 17, 6-8 p.m. featuring a mix of chamber and contemporary music.
RARE’s Rockin’ Summer Night is Aug. 7, 5-9 p.m. at Kennedy Park and will feature the Jerry Ross Band. One of the most popular party bands in Detroit, the 11-person ensemble will have everybody up dancing to the beat.
The last two concerts of the season are at Eastpointe City Hall. Detroit RSUP All Stars appear on Aug. 21, 6-8 p.m. and Midwest Dueling Pianos on Sept. 4 from 5:30 — 8:30 p.m.
All concerts are free and open to the public.
