Junior Ella Porter completed 20 of 29 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns, and Aptos High’s girls flag football team beat Soquel 31-8 in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League game on Wednesday night at Santa Cruz High.

Junior Julia Silviera, sophomore Ellie Marta, and freshman Autumn Guiterrez had touchdown receptions for the defending league champion Mariners.

“I am very pleased with our team’s execution,” Mariners coach Denise Russo said. “We knew we’d face a quick and challenging Soquel offense that would be prepared for our running game. Our players implemented what we practiced this week, containing their run while continuing to improve our passing game.”

Marta led the Mariners with 12 receptions for 84 yards, and Silviera had four receptions for 23 yards. Senior Izzy Graff had three carries for 37 yards and three receptions for 42 yards.Aptos made four interceptions and returned two for touchdowns. Senior Mia Sanchez returned a pick 75 yards for a touchdown, and had four flag pulls. Marta returned an pick 40 yards for a touchdown, made five flag pulls, and had three pass deflections.

Lauren Galster had five flag pulls and a pass deflection, Graff had three flag pulls, a deflection and an interception, and Porter also had an interception.

Chloe McGilvray had a long reception and run to set up Soquel’s touchdown. She also made a one-handed catch for a successful two-point conversion.

Siena Bettermann recorded a sack for the Knights.

Soquel plays at Harbor on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

At Santa Cruz 26, Harbor 6 >> Quarterback Makayla Norman threw four touchdown passes, and the Cardinals earned their first win in program history Wednesday night.

Hayden Mandel made two touchdown receptions, and Charlotte Gill and Ben Sommerville each had one.

Leah Serna recorded three sacks for the Cardinals.

Santa Cruz plays at Scotts Valley on Monday at 6 p.m. Harbor plays in the Salinas Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m.

At Alisal 24, Watsonville 8 >> Sophomore Taylor Alves scored on a 65-yard run for the Wildcatz in their Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division loss Wednesday night.

Men’s soccer

UC Santa Cruz 1, at La Verne 0 >> Nico Herrera-Land scored on a pass from Emanuel Tames-Kaimowitz in the 44th minute and the unbeaten Banana Slugs won their match Wednesday.

UCSC had six shots on goal and took four corner kicks.

Goalie Tobias Jacobson-Bell earned three saves as UCSC recorded its fourth shutout of the season.

UCSC (4-0-3) plays at Redlands on Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls volleyball

Watsonville 3, at Alvarez 0 >> Senior defensive specialist Iliana Sarabia served nine aces and made eight digs. and the Wildcatz earned a 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 sweep in their PCAL Mission Division match Wednesday night.

Senior defensive specialist Daisy Cornejo had nine kills and three aces for the Wildcatz. Senior libero Leslie Rentería made 20 digs. Senior middle blocker Danika Hernandez had five kills and three aces, and junior setter Sofia Murillo had 21 assists and six digs.

The Wildcatz (6-2, 2-0) host Palma (3-3, 1-1) on Friday at 6 p.m.

Women’s volleyball

UCSC 3, at Haverford 0 >> Ashley Magley had 11 kills and three blocks, and the Banana Slugs earned a 25-22, 25-14, 25-19 sweep in Haverford, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday.

Gabia Paliulis had eight kills for UCSC, and Kelly Ann Greene had seven kills and three blocks. Michaela Augustine had 16 assists and six digs. Anna Hospodar made 15 digs and Kate Lau had 14 digs.

UCSC (7-7) plays at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in New York on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

San Mateo Quad >> Cabrillo lost 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 to Solano and 23-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-14 to Los Medanos at the San Mateo Quad on Wednesday.

Cabrillo (4-11) plays in the San Jose City Tri on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m.

Men’s water polo

At Ohlone 21, Cabrillo 9 >> Nolan Nguyen scored four goals in Seahawks’ loss Wednesday.

Pedro Leal and Ayden Reed each scored twice for the Seahawks, and Josh Retzlaff added a goal.
