


Through two full weeks in May, these golf teams and golfers have been the class of Macomb County.
The rankings are sorted via scoring average on 9-hole rounds, which are sourced via iWanamaker.
1. Anchor Bay Tars
(152.6 average, 16 rounds)
Anchor Bay bounced back with a strong week, including a Wednesday showing in Port Huron where, as a team, they shot 151.
Jack Higgins has been the anchor for the Bay with an average of 36.8 — currently 11th best in Michigan, with Lucas Faubert not far behind at 36.9, 14th best.
2. Eisenhower Eagles
(158.9 average, 22 rounds)
The Eagles’ scoring average jumped a whole stroke this week after shooting in the 160s thrice.
Gino D’Annunzio debuted this week with a bang, hitting 39 and 38 at Plum Hollow.3. Romeo Bulldogs
(159.3 average, 13 rounds)
Romeo won the MAC Red championship with a 153 on Wednesday at Cherry Creek — their best performance of the season yet.
Chase Laverell helped big time, shooting a 35 — his second-best mark of the season.
4. De La Salle Pilots
(161.6 average, 28 rounds)
With scores of 152 and 157 in the CHSL Bishop Conference Tournament on Monday in Flint — along with some other strong performances — the Pilots helped drag their average team score down over three full strokes.
Sophomore Julian Sinishtaj became a league champion with rounds of 32 and 36 — his average of 36 is third-best in Michigan, up from No. 9 last week. His teammate, Troy Nguyen, has the No. 23 average in the state at 37.2.
5. L’Anse Creuse North Crusaders
(161.7, 19 rounds)
The Crusaders got their fourth-best round of the season on Tuesday, shooting a 156 as a squad at Bello Woods Golf Course against Marysville. Their average took a bump, though, by shooting 163 and 166 in Port Huron on Wednesday.
Scott Higuchi remains their top guy with a dead-on average of 39. He had scores of 38, 40, 38 and 40 during a busy week.
6. L’Anse Creuse Lancers
(164.1 average, 16 rounds)
LC cleared 160 for the third time this season on Wednesday, shooting 159 at Golden Hawk against Utica. They needed it after rounds of 163 and 170 earlier in the week.
Tyler Conklin had a strong week after shooting 44 on Monday, backing it up with rounds of 38 and 37 at Oak Ridge and Golden Hawk, respectively.
7. Lutheran North Mustangs
(164.4 average, 17 rounds)
The Mustangs’ average came down a full stroke this week with strong team rounds of 156 and 159 at the CHSL tournament in Flint.
Noah Shea’s 38.4 average cracks the top 100 in the state after going 37 and 40 in the CHSL tourney.
8. Utica Chieftains
(167.8 average, 15 rounds)
A 173 on Wednesday at Golden Hawk marked the Chieftains’ worst team outing since mid-April. They’ll look to get back on track with state competition approaching.
Braeden Kurmas’ 40.4 is a team-low.
9. Dakota Cougars
(169.5 average, 33 rounds)
The Cougars pulled off an unbelievable round on Thursday against Chippewa Valley, shooting 145 — a new season-best and only their second time breaking 150 this year. Dominic Vanvliet brought his average down to an even 41 with strong rounds of 40 and 38 this week, both at Plum Hollow.
10. Stevenson Titans
(172.5 average, 14 rounds)
The Titans bounced back after a round week to shoot 163 on Tuesday in St. Clair Shores.
After a rough 49 last Monday, Timothy Meister rebounded by hitting a season-low 37 on Tuesday, then a 42 on Wednesday at Sycamore Hills. His season average is 41.5.
