Monte Vista basketball player Naliyah Sefidi is the Bay Area News Group girls high school athlete of the week and Bellarmine soccer player Gregory Gutierrez is the boys athlete of the week for Jan. 20-25.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sefidi finished with 46.46% of the vote. Oakland Tech basketball player Jhai Johnson took second with 33.19%.
In the boys poll, Gutierrez finished with 45.93% of the vote. Dougherty Valley soccer player Ricardo Feliciano took second and Los Gatos basketball player Anthony Martin was third.
Sefidi, a sophomore, made the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer against Sacred Heart Prep to cap a 39-point night. She followed that by scoring 19 points and distributing seven assists in a victory over Foothill.
Gutierrez, a senior, scored two goals to lead Bellarmine to a 3-1 win over Archbishop Mitty in West Catholic Athletic League play.
