HAYWARD >> A three-car rollover collision on Friday night killed a person, critically injured another and hospitalized two others, police said.

Authorities did not identify the 20-year-old Hayward woman who died in the wreck at the intersection of Hayward Boulevard and Civic Avenue, pending the investigation and the notification of relatives. She was one of three passengers in one of the cars.

Police said it was third fatal wreck they have investigated in their city this year. It happened about 9:35 p.m.

Another passenger in that car, an 18-year-old woman whose place of residence was not disclosed, remained in critical but stable condition at a hospital Monday, police said. A male under 18 years old who was a passenger was hospitalized and expected to make a full recovery, while the driver was not injured. He provided a statement to officers, police said.

A 21-year-old man driving a second car in the crash also was hospitalized with what police called minor injuries. The 37-year-old man who drove the third car complained of minor injuries but did not go to a hospital.

Police did not say how the crash happened. They have not arrested anyone and are awaiting the result of toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
