Elias Díaz homered and scored twice, and Fernando Tatis Jr. had three hits for the San Diego Padres, who beat the visiting San Francisco Giants 5-3 Wednesday for a two-game sweep.

The Padres leapfrogged the Giants into second place behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

Díaz homered on a line shot to left off Landen Roupp (2-2) leading off the third for a 2-0 lead. It was the catcher’s second homer.

Manny Machado and Jose Iglesias had RBI singles in the fifth inning and Luis Arraez added a run-scoring triple in the sixth.

Michael King (4-1) held the Giants to one run and three hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one.

The Giants got late homers from Heliot Ramos and Mike Yastrzemski.

Rockies 2, Braves 1: Colorado ended an eight-game losing streak as Brenton Doyle hit a tiebreaking home run off reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale in the third inning of a home win over Atlanta.

Colorado (5-25) had lost 16 of its previous 17 games and had been outscored by 78 runs.

Rookie Chase Dollander (2-3), the Rockies’ No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 amateur draft, allowed one run, two hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts.

Sale (1-3) struck out a season-high 10 and walked none, allowing two runs and five hits in six innings.

Diamondbacks 4, Mets 3: Corbin Burnes earned his first win for Arizona and pinch-hitter Geraldo Perdomo delivered a two-run single in the seventh that sent the Diamondbacks past host New York.

Making his sixth start with his new team since signing a $210 million, six-year contract as a free agent last offseason, Burnes (1-1) allowed one run and four hits, overcoming five walks and a balk.

Orioles 5, Yankees 4: Ryan Mountcastle and Ramón Urías homered during a four-run second inning, and Baltimore held on for a victory at New York despite three more hits by Aaron Judge.

Judge hit a two-run homer in the first and added two singles to finish April with a .427 batting average.

Mountcastle ended an 0-for-18 slump with a two-run shot that tied the game at 2, and then Urías put the Orioles ahead with a solo drive one out later.

Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 6 (10): Alejandro Kirk hit a game-ending, bases-loaded single in the 10th and Tor- onto overcame a six-run deficit to beat Boston in Lucas Giolito’s return, stopping a three-game losing streak.

Anthony Santander tied the score in the seventh with a three-run homer off Garrett Whitlock.

Kirk and Varsho started the rebound from a 6-0 deficit with back-to-back homers in the sixth off Giolito, who made his Red Sox debut more than 15 months after signing a $38.5 million. two-year contract, The former Harvard-Westlake standout didn’t pitch last season because of a partial tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament, then had been sidelined since spring training due to a strained left hamstring.

Giolito allowed three runs, five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings. .

Carlos Narváez stretched the Red Sox’s lead to 6-0 with a two-run homer off Chad Green in the sixth.

Royals 3, Rays 0: Left-hander Noah Cameron took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his major league debut and Vinnie Pasquantino homered as Kansas City blanked host Tampa Bay.

Cameron shut out the Rays over 6 1/3 innings until Curtis Mead’s one-out single down the left-field line. Cameron (1-0) allowed one hit and five walks.

Phillies 7, Nationals 2: Kyle Schwarber homered in the first for the second consecutive game, Max Kepler and J.T. Realmuto also went deep, and Philadelphia defeated visiting Washington.

Schwarber launched a three-run homer off Jake Irvin. It was his ninth of the season for the Phillies, who have won four straight.

Cristopher Sanchez (3-1) allowed two runs in five innings.

Cardinals 6-9, Reds 0-1: Willson Contreras hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the second game, Pedro Pagés added a solo shot and St. Louis swept a day-night doubleheader at Cincinnati.

Contreras and Pagés homered off 22-year-old left-hander Chase Petty, who allowed nine runs, seven hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings in his major league debut. Jordan Walker added a two-run double in the third.

St. Louis entered 2-12 on the road.

In game one, Victor Scott II, Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn hit consecutive home runs in the ninth inning, with Winn going deep for the second time in the game, as the Cardinals stopped the Reds’ five-game winning game streak.

Miles Mikolas (1-2) allowed three hits and no walks in 5 1/3 innings to get the win.

Pirates 4, Cubs 3: Andrew McCutchen hit a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh in Pittsburgh’s home win over Chicago.

The Cubs scored three runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead 3-2. Ian Happ hit an RBI single, Kyle Tucker drove in a run with a groundout and the third scored on Ryan Borucki’s wild pitch.

Tigers 7, Astros 4: Javy Báez capped a five-run third inning with his ninth career grand slam and visiting Detroit avoided a series sweep by beating Houston.

Baez’s homer off AJ Blu- baugh, a 24-year-old right-hander making his major league debut, put the Tigers ahead 7-1.

Blubaugh gave up seven runs — two earned — and five hits in four innings with six strikeouts and a walk.

Brewers 6, White Sox 4: Jake Bauers hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning and visiting Milwaukee beat Chicago for its third straight victory.

Athletics 7, Rangers 1: Brent Rooker hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning and Lawrence Butler later slugged his first career grand slam as the Athletics beat host Texas.

Guardians 4, Twins 2: Bo Naylor hit a three-run homer and Luis Ortiz kept Minnesota’s hitters off balance and off the scoreboard for 6 1/3 innings, leading Cleveland to a home win.

Naylor connected in the seventh inning off reliever Brock Stewart.
