


San Domenico’s late rally came up short Wednesday in an 11-8 loss to host Athenian in non-league baseball action. The Panthers scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to cut the gap to one run, but Athenian answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Senior Will Rothstein doubled and drove in two runs for San Domenico (4-5, 1-0 BCL West), while Oliver Bennett and Crosby Howard each had two RBIs.
The Panthers were coming off Tuesday’s 2-0 home win over Urban to open Bay Counties League West action. Oliver Swain pitched a complete-game shutout at Albert Park as he allowed just five baserunners on one hit and four walks, while he struck out eight batters.
The Panthers didn’t get — and didn’t need any hits. Sam Tavano scored the winning run in the bottom of the third inning after he drew a walk and later scored on a groundout to first by Colin Falconers. San Domenico added another run in the fifth. San Domenico faces Urban again on Friday.
Beach volleyball
San Domenico beat Convent, 3-1, at home on Wednesday for the first victory in the young history of San Domenico’s beach volleyball program.
The Panthers got wins from the teams of Harley Vuong/Ayla Henry, Chloe Mercier/Lillie Plunkett, and Ashley Bryant/Sasha Lyra Stevens.
Girls lacrosse
Audrey Spaly scored a game-high five goals to lead Branson in a 13-0 shutout over Terra Linda in Tuesday’s MCAL action.
Eva Grevelding, Juliette Caldwell-Little and Lila Spaly scored two goals each to round out the scoring. Bulls netminder Charley Goldstein had three saves against five shots.
• Tam spread the wealth in Tuesday’s 16-2 victory over Archie Williams, with nine players scoring goals for the Red-tailed Hawks (6-2-1, 2-0 MCAL). Sophomore Ellie McEvilley led Tam with two goals and four assists, followed by Hanna O’Kane with two goals and three assists. Sophomore defender Mia Yolles and freshman midfielder Layla Goldstein recorded their first varsity goals in the contest. Senior goalie Morgan McLean had three saves.
Boys lacrosse
Tam needed overtime to defeat powerhouse rival Redwood, 8-7, on Monday.
Prep softball
San Domenico’s Rani Wright-Ohja got on base three times and scored twice, while Delaney Whaley had two hits, three stolen bases and a run as the Panthers defeated Bay 5-2 on Tuesday. Kiyomi Bouffard got on base three times and scored a run, while Amy Le added a run.
Boys tennis
San Rafael earned a pair of notable singles wins, but Tam swept the doubles action in a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Tam’s Mason Dali held off James Ward at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 7-5 and Nate Schrauth won at No. 3 singles for the Red-tailed Hawks. Jude Paine and Ethan Camposano held on for a 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 win at No. 1 doubles for Tam.
The Bulldogs’ Forrest Reilly beat Sam Zail, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Roman Krumrey pulled out a 0-6, 6-0, 10-3 win at No. 4 singles.
• Branson swept singles play as the Bulls beat Marin Catholic 4-3 at the Bay Club Ross Valley on Tuesday. Chase Hoeveler, Ishwar Jayaraman, Finn Higgins and Zander Alpert took victories at Nos. 1-4 singles, respectively. Marin Catholic earned three hard-fought doubles wins. Milo Vidyarthi and Charlie Miller rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at No. 2 doubles, while the Wildcats’ No. 3 team of Andrew Gorcyzcki and Tony Tobin won 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-6.
• Redwood dominated singles play en route to a 6-1 victory over San Marin on Tuesday. The Giants’ Will Greenwald, Lukas Berger, Tugdual Ricordel and Owen Adams earned wins at Nos. 1-4 singles, respectively. The Mustangs picked up a 2-6, 6-3, 16-14 win with their No. 3 doubles team of Milo Reyes and Shawn Bested.
• Archie Williams swept Novato on Tuesday, with singles wins from Fin Donnelly, Teo Donnelly, Rylan Donner and Porter Cooke.
Boys golf
Low medalist Jack Hilleboe shot an even par 36 at Peacock Gap to lead Branson past Archie Williams, 196-219, on Wednesday. Drew Kalafatas shot a 1-over 37 for the Bulls, while Yousef Abueida shot a 3-over 39 to lead Archie Williams.
• Jack Mount turned in a 35 on his card at Marin Country Club to lead Redwood to a 183-213 victory over Novato on Wednesday. The Hornets’ Gianni Zucconi came around at 41.
• Low medalist Oskar Valiagua shot a 2-over 32 at San Francisco’s Fleming Golf Course on Tuesday, but San Domenico fell to Stuart Hall, 159-164, in the Bay Counties League matchup.
Prep swimming
Mia Kelly won both the 200 free and 500 free as the San Domenico girls picked up a pair of wins against both University and Drew.
The Panthers beat Drew but could not overcome the numbers of University in the boys competition, despite big wins from Blake Hemsworth (200 free and 500 free) and Nolan Andrews (100 fly and 100 back).
