Host San Domenico defeated cross-town rival Marin Academy, 77-51, as the the kicked off the BCL schedule on Wednesday.
The Panthers rolled up a 19-11 lead in the first quarter and continued to set the pace throughout the game behind a balanced offense that registered 16 assists and 11 3-pointers. Gavin Early posted a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds in only 20 minutes of action. Irakli Jokhadze finished with 15 points on five 3-pointers to go with four assists. Omar Williams chipped in 10 points and Kris Jakstas finished with five assists for the Panthers (11-4).
• Marin Catholic got big scoring from Oliver Myers and Theo Pontes to hold off San Rafael and Gio Brovelli, 69-52, in a non-league meeting on Tuesday. Myers led the Wildcats with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Pontes added 12 points. Kelly Storms added 8 rebounds @ 4 assists. Dom Hammond played a stellar floor game to collect nine points, five assists and three steals, while Kelly Storms added eight rebounds and four assists. The Bulldogs’ Brovelli scored a game-high 28 points.
• A 20-point third quarter pushed Redwood to a 54-37 victory over Benicia on Tuesday in a non-league game. The Giants saw balanced scoring with Semetri Carr leading the way with 19 points, followed by Tyler White with 15, and Brennan Woodley with 11. Redwood is scheduled to play Branson on Friday and Marin Catholic on Saturday.
Girls basketball
Archie Williams High rolled to a 73-31 victory over Arroyo on Tuesday with big efforts from Reese Patton and Parker Conrad.
• San Marin scored bragging rights with Tuesday’s 40-23 victory over crosstown rival Novato in a MCAL preview. The two teams meet gain Feb. 6 in a league matchup.
• Redwood earned a 43-21 non-league victory over Miramonte on Tuesday.
Girls soccer
Riley Pearson’s hat trick powered the Branson School past Terra Linda, 4-1, on Wednesday. The Bulls’ Julia Myerberg scored the equalizer in the 15th minute with an assist from Cat Howell. Pearson then scored the next three goals, with assists from Luna Diaz and Hailey Sellers.
• Host Marin Catholic beat Rancho Cotate, 2-1, Wednesday, despite missing some key pieces. Lana Whilborg stepped up for a solid effort in net. Wildcats freshman Zoe Jenkins scored a brace with assists from Ava Korich and Nora Snearly in her debut.
• San Rafael beat Santa Rosa, 4-1, on Tuesday behind Jail Brown’s hat trick. Darby Tones scored the other goal. Fones, Brown and Ryder Higgins-Jones each had an assist for the Bulldogs.
Boys soccer
Henry Escobar and Brandon Perez both scored in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Sonoma Valley. Jaedon Higgins Jones got the assist on the shot from Perez.
