Brewers RF Sal Frelick departs after making a sliding grab

MILWAUKEE >> Milwaukee right fielder Sal Frelick left Sunday’s game against Washington after making a terrific catch in foul territory in the third inning.

Frelick, a Gold Glove winner last year, made a sliding grab on Jacob Young’s sinking flyball. He stayed down briefly before walking off with a trainer.

The Brewers said Frelick experienced some left hamstring soreness. He was replaced by Isaac Collins.

“His hamstring last week (he) was feeling it a little bit, and he was cautious,” manager Pat Murphy said. “He got treatment for it.”

Murphy said Frelick was getting an MRI after the game.

The 25-year-old Frelick, a first-round pick in the 2021 amateur draft, hit an RBI single in Milwaukee’s three-run second. He also made a leaping catch on Daylen Lile’s drive to right in the second.

Frelick is batting .294 with a career-high seven homers and 39 RBIs in 93 games this season. He also has 17 steals.

NFLPA denies tension, says executive director Howell wasn’t asked to resign

The NFLPA’s executive committee sent a memo to players on Sunday, denying that executive director Lloyd Howell was asked to step down.

Howell has come under scrutiny since ESPN reported he has maintained a part-time consulting job with the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm that holds league approval to seek minority ownership in NFL franchises.

That followed the revelation that the NFL Players Association and the league had a confidentiality agreement to keep quiet an arbitrator’s ruling about possible collusion by owners over quarterback salaries.

In January, arbitrator Christopher Droney ruled there wasn’t sufficient evidence of collusion by owners in contract negotiations with quarterbacks after the Cleveland Browns gave QB Deshaun Watson a record $230 million fully guaranteed contract. But Droney did conclude that “by a clear preponderance of the evidence,” Commissioner Roger Goodell and the league’s general counsel encouraged owners to restrict players’ guaranteed money in their contracts.

The union plans to appeal the ruling, a person with knowledge of that decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Browns rookie RB Quinshon Judkins arrested on battery and domestic violence charge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. >> Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested Saturday night in Florida on a charge of battery and domestic violence.

According Broward County arrest records, Judkins was jailed overnight and was awaiting his first court appearance. The charge is described in the arrest report as “touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.”

The charge is a misdemeanor. The records do not indicate if Judkins has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

A Browns spokesman said the team is aware of the incident and gathering more information.

The 21-year-old Judkins was the 36th overall pick in the April draft after rushing for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns at Ohio State last season.

The Browns drafted Judkins in the hopes that he could become the team’s lead running back after Nick Chubb signed with the Houston Texans. Cleveland also drafted Dylan Sampson in the fourth round.
