Good news about Marin people

Recognition: Breakthrough T1D, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, awarded Dayton Coles, of Larkspur, the 2024 Dr. Gerald Fishbone Award for his longstanding volunteerism at Breakthrough T1D. He’s served on Breakthrough T1D’s international board of directors and research committee, and helped lead the Mission Impact Volunteer and Clinical Trial Education Volunteer programs.

Recognition: The Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute named Lotte Whistling Bird Kizer, of Novato, one of its Brave Heart Fellows for 2025. The Brave Heart Fellowship provides pathways for youth leaders to enhance their skills as protectors of Native lands, waterways and sacred sites, and stewards for food sovereignty. Kizer, a citizen of the Washoe Tribe of Lake Tahoe, plans to help restore wildlife habitats for native animals in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
