COLLINS Theodore Joseph "Ted" Was born May 3, 1932 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.


He was the first child of Theodore Sr. and Claire Collins. Ted practiced law in St. Paul for over 45 years, and was State Bar President in 1982.

Surrounded by his family, Ted passed peacefully on September 7, 2024, aged 92 at his home in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Sr. and Claire Collins, Aunt Alice and Uncle Tony, first wife, Mary Joan Collins (nee Tierney), brother Paul Collins (Betty), sister Rosemary Oehlers (Kenneth), brother in-law William Hoye, stepson Philip Voerding, stepdaughter Stacy Voerding, and grandson Nicholas Derse.

Ted is survived by his wife Jean Dick, and Jean’s sons Nathan Voerding, Colin Voerding (Mary Sellner), Ted’s sons Anthony Collins (Bridget Fitzgerald), and Theodore Collins III (Brenda), Ted’s sister Connie Hoye, and Ted’s cousin Jean Scanlan. His grandchildren Sophy Fitzcollins, Theodore Collins IV (Gretchen), Sean Collins (Anna), and Dr. Erin Collins, Sarah Barber, Jordan Voerding (Suzanne), Kyle Doster (Matt), and Kailey Voerding. Ted is survived by great-grandchildren Jade Voerding, Alexa Voerding, Jackson Voerding, Milla Barber, and Ginevieve Collins.

Ted’s extended family includes many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Ted was an active alumni of Cretin High (class of 1950). Ted graduated from St. Paul Seminary without taking holy orders, graduated Magna Cum Laude from William Mitchell College of Law, and was admitted to the bar in 1960. Ted co-founded the St. Paul law firm CBS&H. Ted was a friend of Bill W, instrumental in the work of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL), and Midwest Lawyers Mutual (MLM) for decades. Ted loved gathering friends especially for biking and fishing. He and his wife Jean traveled worldwide. Ted’s special gift was his uproarious laugh and the sense that a story was about to be told.

Ted donated his body to research at the U of M, thus there will be a Memorial Mass at Church of the Assumption, 51 West 7th Street, St. Paul, on October 8th at 10am with a reception following in lieu of visitation or wake.
