Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff will miss this week’s NL wild-card series against the Diamondbacks because of a right shoulder injury.
“Frankly, his availability for the postseason is up in the air at this point,” manager Craig Counsell said.
The NL Central champion Brewers hosted the Diamondbacks in Game on Tuesday, but the game ended too late for this edition.
Woodruff is dealing with what Counsell described as a capsular injury. He’d been expected to start Game 2.
The 30-year-old right-hander was 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 11 start during the regular season. He last pitched on Sept. 23 against the Marlins, giving up four runs and six hits in five innings.
College football: Iowa QB Cade McNamara will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during the first half of the Hawkeyes’ win over Michigan State on Saturday. The Michigan transfer will have surgery soon and plans to return next season. Deacon Hill will be the starter against Purdue this week.
