Folk rock duo Katalysst will be the featured act at the Village Homes Performers’ Circle in Davis on Feb. 28.
The duo is made up of bass player Alyssa and vocalist Kat. The two met at a local music festival in 2019 and have been making music together since 2020.
“They combine Kat’s operatic vocal finesse and thoughtful chord progressions with Alyssa’s poetic lyrical style and dynamic bass lines,” the press release said. “Their music interweaves memorable melodies with compelling motifs, harkening back to the heart and vitality central to the protest songs of the 1960’s.”
The event will begin with an open mic and conclude with the featured performance. Open mic performances will last from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and the featured act will perform from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
This month the Village Homes Performers’ Circle will be held inside the Village Homes Community Center, located at 2661 Portage Bay East in Davis.
The Village Homes Performers’ Circle is a free event and is open to performers of all levels. No tickets or reservations are required. It is held the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Artist Janine Echabarne will be making her ceramic debut in the Artery Gallery on March 3.
While she has been primarily known for her jewelry at the Artery since 1986, Echabarne decided to start working with clay during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
“The functional pieces are sculptural planters for cactus and succulents,” a press release from the Artery said. “The purely figurative pieces reflect the environment and inner states of being human.”
The exhibition will also include simple unset stone pendants and designs in metal. Guest artists Eddie O. Rodriguez, paintings, and Kiyono Kishi, collage, will also be joining Echabarne in the exhibit.
The exhibit, “Clay Selfie,” will open March 3 and run through March 27 at the Artery, located at 207 G St. in Davis. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 10 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Grammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez will be at the Mondavi Center on Feb. 25.
Rodríguez and Martinez first worked together on Rodríguez’s 2012 release “Invasion Parade.”
“Each artist brings a different approach to the collaboration. Rodríguez was schooled in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana, and his piano playing is informed as much by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Afro Cuban and jazz roots,” the Mondavi Center’s website said. “Percussionist Martinez’s musical training came directly from the streets of the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Old Havana in which he was raised.”
The duo will be at the Mondavi Center on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is scheduled to last for 90 minutes.
