Pegee Helen Laugenour died peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2025 at the age of 78.

Pegee was born Pegee Helen Maynard in Clarksville, East Texas on November 13, 1946, to a family of migrant farm workers and spent her early childhood traveling between Texas, California and Washington state, often participating in the harvest work alongside her 8 siblings.

Her family later settled residence in Arbuckle, living in what was previously the Arbuckle Prisoner of War Branch Camp.

Pegee worked as a waitress from the age of 14 while raising two siblings and later became a Medical Assistant at the Woodland Clinic Medical Group. Pegee then pursued a career in law enforcement, becoming a Deputy Sheriff with the Yolo County Sheriff's Office assigned to various roles including jail operations, patrol and detective division. She was later hired as a detective by the newly formed West Sacramento Police Department, remaining until her retirement. Pegee then received training and certification as a Polygraph Examiner and entered business as a private investigator focusing on pre-employment screening and background investigations for law enforcement and fire service agencies in the Sacramento region. Pegee pursued this endeavor until the business transitioned to a dialup and later microwave broadband Internet Service Provider where she remained active in the administration of the business until shortly before her passing.

Pegee's love and dedication to her husband of 41 years, as well as her deep devotion to her family, were unwavering.

Her love for her children, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews knew no bounds. She was the heart of a close-knit family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and cherished memories that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Pegee is survived by her husband and love of her life, John Laugenour, daughter and son in law, Kristen (Caldwell) Hill and Brian Hill, son Dustin Caldwell, daughter and son in law Lisa (Laugenour) Godden and Steve Godden, son Eric Laugenour and daughter in law Sarah Laugenour, her sister, Penny Farrington (Mark) and brothers, Ron (Dorthy) and Dennis Maynard. She is also survived byher grandchildren, Jessica (Burlin) West, Hunter Godden, Mackenzie Godden, Paige Hill, Morgon Caldwell, Carson Hill, Rylee Caldwell, Anna Laugenour, Samuel Burlin, and great granddaughter, Delaney West.

She is preceded in death by her first husband John Caldwell, four brothers and one sister.

A private family grave side ceremony will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Pegee’s Celebration of Life is open to family and friends on March 11, 2025 at 2pm. Venue will be at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 37650 CA-16 Woodland, CA 95695.
