


Godwin shoots 67 to win Colorado PGA Pro title
Tristin Godwin, an assistant golf pro at Cherry Hills Country Club, birdied four of his six holes and added an eagle on No. 5 to finish with a 67 for the day and take home the Colorado PGA Professional Championship on Wednesday at Valley Country Club in Centennial. He recorded a 10-under 206 (68-71-67) over the three-day tournament.
Lakewood Country Club’s Geoff Keffer started the day two strokes ahead of Godwin, and they were neck-and-neck through 11 holes before Godwin pulled away. Keffer finished second with an 8-under 208 (68-69-71—208).
In third place was Mike Weingartner, of The Links Golf Course.
U.S., Spain, Italy and U.K. win opening group matches
VALENCIA, Spain>> Less than two weeks after his second-round exit at the U.S. Open, Carlos Alcaraz was staring at another upset when a set down in his opening group-stage match for Spain in the Davis Cup.
Alcaraz turned things around this time though he needed some help from his opponent. The No. 3-ranked Alcaraz clinched victory for Spain against the Czech Republic when Tomas Machac retired injured with the score at 6-7 (3), 6-1.
It gave Spain an unassailable 2-0 lead with Roberto Bautista Agut having already defeated Jiri Lehecka. The United States, defending champion Italy and Britain also won.
Aces star Wilson breaks single-season scoring record in win over Fever
INDIANAPOLIS>> A’ja Wilson broke the WNBA single season scoring record with her 941st point just before the first half of the Las Vegas Aces’ game against the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night.
Wilson hit a jumper from the free throw line with 26.4 seconds left in the second quarter to surpass the previous mark of 939 points set by Jewell Loyd in 2023.
The Aces’ two-time league MVP came into the game averaging 27.3 points and 11.9 rebounds. She finished the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds as Las Vegas won 86-75.
Rays pitcher Uceta suspended 3 games for throwing at Castellanos
NEW YORK>> Tampa Bay pitcher Edwin Uceta has been suspended for three games and fined for intentionally throwing at Nick Castellanos, an action that prompted the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder to say “that’s like my 2-year-old throwing a fit.”
Rays manager Kevin Cash was suspended for one-game and also fined an undisclosed amount by Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for on-field operations. Cash was to serve the suspension during Wednesday night’s game at the Philadelphia.
If Uceta appeals, the penalty would be delayed until the appeals process is concluded.

Mavericks re-sign 13-year veteran Markieff Morris
DALLAS>> The Mavericks are bringing back forward Markieff Morris. The 13-year veteran has played sparingly since joining Dallas but brings leadership that is valued by the defending Western Conference champions.
Morris played 26 regular-season games in 2023-24 before the Mavericks made a run to the NBA Finals. Dallas lost to Boston in five games. Morris joined Dallas in the blockbuster deal that brought star guard Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks before the trade deadline in 2023.
