Several days after being hit by a car while crossing Wixom Road, an 11-year-old boy remains hospitalized in “extreme critical condition,” police said.

The crash occurred at around 5:30 p.m. last Friday, Oct. 18 when the victim and his 14-year-old friend were running across Wixom Road from a Target store, just south of Grand River Avenue, toward Catholic Central High School, according to Novi Police Commander Jason Meier. The two were crossing the street against a red hand/stop signal in the crosswalk when the 11-year-old was struck by a vehicle headed north on Wixom Road, according to witnesses, Meier said.

The 18-year-old driver had a green light when the accident occurred, and there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, Meier said.

The injured boy was transported from the scene to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi, and later airlifted by Flight for Life to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

Meier said no charges are currently anticipated for the driver.
