Walnut Creek
Lorna Kimball Nichols passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 98. She lived a rich life marked by curiosity, resilience, humor, and a deep love for family, friends, animals, and the simple beauty of the everyday world.

Lorna was born December 25, 1927 and raised by her mother Inez Althea Riley Kimball and loving father Clinton Kimball in San Diego, CA. Inher early years she was surrounded by strong, unconventional women who shaped her outlook. She often recalled a lively boarding-house kitchen filled with laughter and women working side by side. She also remembered climbing trees at night to watch the moon. She spoke fondly of her grandparents, especially her beloved grandmother, Bertsie, who taught her that true beauty comes from the goodness within. These early experiences fostered her bold independence, penchant for storytelling, and appreciation for simple joys. At the age of 19 she married Al Nichols and together they shared decades of companionship, travel, and adventure.

After Al’s passing in 1993, Lorna continued forward with characteristic strength and independence. She continued to find great happiness in their close-knit community in Walnut Creek, CA. There, she enjoyed many dear friendships, cared for her beloved labradors, masterfully crafted intricate dollhouses, supported the American Cancer Society, and continued to travel.

Lorna is survived by her son, Victor; her daughter-in-law, Sonia Nichols; her granddaughters Danielle Goudeau, Camila Nichols, and Carmen Nichols; her great-grandson Nicholas Goudeau; and Danielle’s husband, Theron Goudeau.

Lorna often joked that her epitaph could read, “She lived. She died.” Those who knew her understand how much that would leave unsaid. She is remembered for her incredibly sharp mind, adventurous spirit, humor, and her belief that life ismeant to be lived fully.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, January 30, at Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lafayette, California.
