Ace Berry will headline a list of five new inductees into the 2025 California Rodeo Salinas Hall of Fame Class.
Established in 2010, the Hall of Fame honors contestants, volunteers and those that have had a profound impact on the 115-year-old rodeo.
Berry competed in the California Rodeo for 43 years, capturing the team roping competition as a then 13-year-old in 1960.
The Oakdale native won the all-around title in 1970, and was the bareback riding champion in 1975 and 1977, earning a gold card in team roping in 2002.
Berry qualified for the National finals six times in bareback and 14 consecutive years in team roping. In 1972, he won NFR titles in bareback riding and team roping.
Also being enshrined are Bobby Christensen Jr., Fred McCargar, Bruce Taylor and Jesus Esparza Family.
“The Hall of Fame is a vital part of preserving the rich history of the California Rodeo Salinas,” Chairman of the Hall of Committee Warren Wayland said. “Each inductee left an unforgettable mark on our organization.”
Christensen served as the main stock contractor for the historic event from 1970-1989. He also competed in bareback riding at the California Rodeo Salinas for 15 years.
McCargar was the founding secretary of the Rodeo Association of America in 1926, elevating the California Rodeo Salinas from a local event into a world-renowned rodeo.
McCargar started the Miss California Rodeo Salinas pageant and famously crowned President Roosevelt with a cowboy hat.
Taylor has been a major supporter of the California Rodeo Salinas for 30 plus years, contributing to projects, including the in-arena scoreboard, leaderboard and the pedestrian bridge.
A longtime sponsor of the Rodeo’s annual kickoff concert, Taylor was also a contributor to the adjacent softball complex and Rabobank Stadium.
The Esparza family has been a part of the California Rodeo Salinas for 50 years, participating in the horse parades and grand entry. Three generations have carried on the family tradition.
The Hall of Fame inductions are slated for July 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Mike Storm Patio at the Salinas Sports Complex.
