Just how beautiful do you find President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill to be?

That’s our Question of the Week for readers.

The taxing and spending legislation, which has passed out of the House of Representatives and is being discussed in the Senate, with the president asking for an Independence Day deadline for passage, would make permanent the 2017 tax cuts for some Americans, as well as make big cuts to Medicaid, food benefits and other programs. Non-partisan analysts estimate it would add more than $3 trillion to the national debt.

How would the BBB affect you personally?

Do you like the populist provision that would not tax income from tips and overtime work? What are your thoughts on the new work requirements for Medicaid recipients? On the spending side, the package would include $350 billion in new monies to hire 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, with $10,000 signing bonuses, in line with Trump’s promises to deport more undocumented residents. Is that taxpayer money well spent?

While the bill passed out of the House on a party-line vote, there is some dissent among GOP senators, and just four Republican defectors would be needed to block the BBB. Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky have already promised not to vote for the bill. Tillis was immediately threatened with a primary challenge by Trump; he replied that he won’t run for re-election. Four more Republican colleagues are said to be on the fence. Is the threat of “primarying” by the president appropriate?

More BBB budget features: Immigrants entering the U.S. would face stiff new fees, including $1,000 for those seeking asylum protections. Billions are provided for developing Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system over the U.S. Do you like those features?

Basically, Republicans say they are trying to right-size the safety net programs for Americans, so that mainly pregnant women and children are served, and to root out waste, fraud and abuse.

Deficit hawks see more debt. Some GOPers and all Democrats say too many would be hurt by the cuts. Who’s right?
