Dodgers: Mookie Betts was out of the Dodgers’ lineup against the Yankees with an injured left toe. Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that the shortstop was having X-rays and is day-to-day. Roberts said Betts “stubbed his toe, not exactly sure how” after the Dodgers returned from their road trip. “It’s just kind of an accident.” “I feel confident saying it’s day-to-day,” Roberts added, “but putting on a shoe today was difficult for him.” Betts’ mishap was reminiscent of first baseman Freddie Freeman slipping in the shower at home in April. He aggravated his surgically repaired right ankle and missed nine games. “Mookie’s toe, that’s kind of freaky, like what happened to me,” Freeman said after the Dodgers’ 8-5 win. “You hit the speed bumps along the way. We did it last year, and we did all right. Hopefully, we can do that again this year.” ... Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. The team made the move Saturday when catcher Chuckie Robinson was claimed off waivers. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment this week by the Angels. Glasnow first went on the 15-day IL on April 28 with right shoulder inflammation. With the move, the right-hander would be eligible to return in late June. He threw his first bullpen session last week.
Orioles: The Orioles placed Ryan Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Saturday, a day after the first baseman left in the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory over the White Sox with discomfort. Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Mountcastle had an MRI. “Just hopeful that it’s not too bad,” Mansolino said. Mountcastle, who is hitting .246 with two homers and 15 RBIs, is the second Orioles player in as many days to go on the injured list with a hamstring strain after Cedric Mullins did so Friday.
Astros: Yordan Alvarez’s hand injury is worse than it originally appeared. The Astros slugger felt pain in his right hand on Friday while hitting and a small fracture that was previously believed to be a muscle strain was discovered. The fracture is about 60% healed. General manager Dana Brown said he believes the fracture in Alvarez’s fourth metacarpal wasn’t discovered in initial imaging on May 6 because there was too much inflammation and fluid. Alvarez has been out since May 3 with the injury. They had hoped he could come off the injured list this weekend. “The immediate plan for him right now is to just let it rest,” Brown said. “And he’ll still continue to do other baseball activity like the running, he could probably go out in the outfield and catch. He can do everything else except for pick up a bat. And so, we don’t even want him hitting off tees even though he feels good enough to hit off a tee.”
Red Sox: Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks has been placed on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right hip. The Red Sox announced Friday the move is retroactive to Wednesday.
Mariners: The Mariners promoted infield prospect Cole Young from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of their game against the Twins on Saturday. Right-hander Bryce Miller was also reinstated from the 15-day injured list.
