


Pajaro Valley High’s softball team has been on the wrong end of some lopsided losses this season. The Grizzlies have given up 15 or more runs in all seven of their losses.
On Monday, the Grizzlies got to experience the sweet taste of a commanding victory for the second time this season.
Sophomore Hemeria Delatorre had three hits, including a triple, four RBI, and scored twice, and the Grizzlies routed Anzar 18-1 in the teams’ four-inning, Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division game.
It was the largest margin of victory this season for the Grizzlies (3-7, 2-2). They beat St. Francis 26-9 on March 21, and edged Seaside 8-7 for their only other win two days earlier.
Freshman Nadia Renteria had four hits, including a double, one RBI, and scored three runs. Senior Elena Barron had three hits, three RBI, and scored three runs. Senior Angie Torres had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice. Juniors Jaqueline Alvarez Zavala and Olivia Contreras each had a hit, one RBI, and two runs scored. Junior Virginia Escobar had a hit and two runs scored.
Delatorre, the winning pitcher, gave up two hits and five walks in her complete-game outing. She struck out eight batters.
Pajaro Valley plays at Gonzales (0-7, 0-1) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
High school baseball
At Watsonville 15, Marina 0; 5 inn. >> The Wildcatz used an 11-run outburst in the third inning to help secure their mercy-rule win and remain tied with King City for the PCAL Cypress Division lead Monday.
The Wildcatz (6-9, 5-0) had five hits, drew 10 walks, stole 11 bases, and took advantage of six errors by the Mariners (0-8, 0-3).
Senior Patrick Miller-Brown had a home run and three RBI. Senior Rudy Valdez had a hit, three RBI, four stolen bases, and scored twice. Freshman Brody Barto had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored. Senior Francisco Rodriquez-Bermundez had two hits, one RBI, three stolen bases, and scored twice. Senior Ben Miller had a hit and scored twice. Junior Mathew Silva and senior Kaden Ortiz each had a hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Junior Kaleb True had one of the Mariners’ two hits and stole three bases.
Valdez earned the complete-game win. He gave up two hits, one walk, and struck out 11 batters.
Watsonville hosts Marina on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
