Butte County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Oroville man and woman June 28 on suspicion of assaulting and stealing from a man in Concow, according to a news release Wednesday morning.

Deputies began searching for the two, Chase Cotton, 36, and Kimberly Langley, 45, after being dispatched around 5:47 p.m. June 26 to Hog Ranch Road, where they found a person they say had been assaulted, but no suspects. According to the release, deputies found evidence to suspect Cotton and Langley took an item from the property.

The search involved two hours of searching by helicopter and drone, which did not succeed, according to the release. However, about two days later, deputies and a member of the BCSO Special Enforcement Unit found and arrested Cotton and Langley in Oroville, the release said.

Cotton was arrested on suspicion of burglary, robbery, battery and damage to a communication device; Langley was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and damage to a communication device.

Assault arrest

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Oroville man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after investigating a domestic dispute aroud 5:08 p.m. June 26 near Lacy Court.

According to a news release, deputies obtained a warrant to arrest Johnathan Russo, 37, after an investigation found evidence that deputies say show Russo assaulted a victim.

Russo was not present at the residence when deputies arrived, but he was later found on June 27 by BCSO detectives and deputies in Chico, where he was taken into custody.

Russo was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing aa firearm, domestic battery and possession of a controlled substance, the release said.

Slice of Chico

The city of Chico, in observance of the Downtown Business Chico Association’s Slice of Chico 2025 event, will be closing all of Third Street between Broadway and Main streets and one lane on Third street. between Main and Wall streets.

The road closure will begin 9 a.m. to allow setup for the event, which begins 10 a.m. and ends 5 p.m.
