A West Bloomfield Township man was injured and a passenger in the car he was driving died in a two-vehicle crash in mid-Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a crash on South Sheridan Road near Boyer Road in Fairplain Township at about 10 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a northbound 2008 Audi, traveling on South Sheridan Road, attempted to pass another northbound vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Police said the West Bloomfield man, 25, was driving the Audi. As it was overtaking the other northbound vehicle, it collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Chrysler 200, driven by a 21-year-old Ionia man.

A 19-year-old Greenville woman, who was a passenger in the Audi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Chrysler, a 15-year-old Alma boy, was transported to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The deceased woman was not wearing her seatbelt, police said. Investigators believe the others were wearing them. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

As of Monday, no charges or citations had been issued.
