German Aicher edges out U.S.’ Lauren Macuga in women’s downhill

KVITFJELL, Norway>> German skier Emma Aicher won a World Cup downhill on Saturday for her first victory, one day after she earned the maiden podium result of her career.

Following a flawless second part of her run on the Olympiabakken course, Aicher edged out Lauren Macuga by 0.03 seconds, denying the American what would have been her first downhill triumph.

Lindsey Vonn was 0.95 off the pace in 16th.

Kristoffersen takes GS, denies Pinheiro Braathen first-ever win for Brazil

KRANJSKA GORA, Slovenia>> Henrik Kristoffersen won his first World Cup giant slalom in three years, denying runner-up Lucas Pinheiro Braathen what would have been Brazil’s first ever top-level victory in Alpine skiing.

Edwards fined $35K; season total at $320K

NEW YORK>> Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards was fined $35,000 by the NBA for failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection from a recent game and throwing the ball into the stands, bringing the All-Star’s season fine total to $320,000.

Edwards has been docked six different times this season, mostly for profane language in postgame interviews.

SUNRISE, Fla.>> The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers acquired defenseman Seth Jones in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawk.

Florida got Jones and a 2026 fourth-round pick from Chicago for goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional first-round pick in next year’s draft.
