Arcadia kept fighting and clawing its way back against visiting Pasadena during Friday’s Pacific League game, but the Bulldogs were resilient too, coming away with a 56-50 victory.

After Arcadia freshman Owen Eteuati-Edwards’ putback with 18 seconds left cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 52-50, Pasadena’s Troy Wilson applied the finishing touches.

He scored the final four points to allow the Bulldogs to improve to 12-6 overall and 2-0 in league while handing the Apaches (14-9, 3-1) their first league loss.

“Arcadia is a great team, and they’re even better on their home court,” Pasadena coach Tony Brooks said. “We knew we had to keep things changed up to keep them off-balanced, because once they get flowing, they’re hard to beat. Our team came in and executed the game plan pretty well. It never works out exactly the way you want it to. But for the most part we played well enough to win.”

One night earlier, Pasadena finished a postponed game against Burbank at Maranatha, winning 70-42. The game was postponed in the second quarter on Jan. 7 when the Eaton fire began.

The games Thursday and Friday were the first for the Bulldogs since the Pasadena Unified School District suspended sports activities because of the fires.

Pasadena will play the remainder of its games on the road or at alternate sites. Brooks said his team understands how difficult it will be.

“Each game is a championship game,” Brooks said. “We treat everything as that and we know we have to bring our best, especially on the road. We don’t take anyone lightly, we prepare and we’re going to give our best effort.”

Wilson and Pasadena’s 6-foot-6 senior Brandin Carpinter finished with a team-high 16 points and 6-foot-10 junior Josh Irving added 10 points to go with six blocks.

Pasadena raced to a 14-0 lead on the back of Wilson, who had 10 of the 14 points.

The Apaches rallied at that point, scoring the final eight points of the quarter to trail 16-11.

The Apaches kept closing the deficit in the second quarter, pulling within a point, 24-23, after Nick Wallace Jr.’s 3-pointer.

But the Apaches would never take the lead. Each time they had a run, the Bulldogs had an answer, even in the final seconds.

Junior Noa Eteuati-Edwards finished with 16 points for Arcadia.

ETIWANDA 56, DAMIEN 39: The Spartans’ Eli Garner and Lucas Arrieta each finished with eight points as the Spartans lost for a second straight game to close out the Baseline League’s regular season.

In years past, Damien’s 65-47 loss to Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday and Friday’s loss would have likely eliminated the Spartans’ league title hopes. But this year, the league is having a post-regular season tournament to decide the league championship.

Damien entered Friday’s league finale tied with Etiwanda for second place. The loss leaves the Spartans (18-8, 4-2) in third place and the No. 3 seed in the league tournament.

Rancho Cucamonga (21-7, 5-0) earned the top seed and Etiwanda (16-10, 4-1) finished second to earn the two seed.
