Luca Venturoli, a freshman forward out of Bologna, Italy, scored three goals, and the Cabrillo College men’s soccer team routed host Monterey Peninsula 7-0 in a Coast Conference crossover match Friday.

Yoan Ponio had a goal and an assist, and Dempsey Miller, Eduardo Alvarez, and Luis Carrasco also scored.

Goalies Carlos Bajaras and Angel Edgar each played a half for Cabrillo and made a combined three saves as the Seahawks (4-2-2, 2-0-0 Coast North) posted their third straight shutout.

MPC (1-6-2, 1-1-0) made five saves.

Cabrillo hosts West Valley (4-2-0, 2-0-0 Coast South) in a crossover match on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Boys water polo

Monterey Bay Invitational >> Santa Cruz beat Morro Bay 18-5 and Ponderosa 12-0 on Day 1 of the Monterey Bay Invitational on Friday.

Hayden Johnson totaled nine goals, two assists and two steals in the games. Pa’kalani Vaka-Saxton had seven goals, two assists and nine steals. Xavier Hunter totaled five goals, two assists and four steals, and Matthias Cruz had two goals, five assists and five steals.

Tate Wilson and Gio Marini, Nikolaus Kay also scored for the Cardinals.

Santa Cruz (10-2) faces Archbishop Mitty at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Girls volleyball

Kirby 3, at Trinity Christian 2 >> Senior libero Lucia Nakashima had 11 kills, 16 digs and three aces, and the Griffins rallied for their third straight match win on Friday, 13-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-16, 15-7.

Senior setter and assist leader Emi Roberts was out sick, but the slow starting Griffins (3-6, 2-4) finally found their rhythm in the Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division match.

Senior outside hitter Charlotte Nielsen had nine kills and five aces for Kirby. Senior Annabel Mahnke had eight kills and 10 digs, sophomore Lucy Churchill had six kills and four blocks, and senior Maddie Taylor had six kills.

Kirby hosts Anzar at Branciforte Middle School on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Women’s soccer

Cabrillo 1, at Chabot 1 >> The Seahawks scored in the fifth minute and earned a draw against the Gladiators in Hayward on Friday.

Chabot (4-3-1) scored the equalizer in the 39th minute.

Cabrillo (1-6-1, 0-0-0) plays at Skyline (5-3-1, 0-1-0) in its Coast Conference North Division opener on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Women’s cross country

D-III Pre-Nationals >> UC Santa Cruz’s Kenzie Seymour completed the 6k course in 21:25.54 for second place, and the Banana Slugs took seventh out of 44 teams at the D-III Pre-Nationals in Terra Haute, Indiana, on Friday.

Helena Janku (22:24.20; 38th), Hanna Hekkanen (22:41.25; 57th), Jordan Baden (22:55.03; 74th), and Faith Dyogi (23:22.50; 110th) also scored for UCSC.

Men’s cross country

D-III Pre-Nationals >> UCSC’s Luke Holland took 21st place in 25:03.75 on the 8k course to lead the Banana Slugs at the D-III Pre-Nationals in Terra Haute, Indiana, on Friday.

Eric Anderson (25:27.02; 47th), Graeme Maclean (25:29.01; 48th), Bentham Vu (26:15.14; 116th) and Camden Hebert (26:18.64; 127th) also scored for UCSC.
