A Gibraltar man is facing a felony charge in Bloomfield Township for allegedly stealing a car from a gas station while the customer was inside the store.

Christopher John Henthorn, 38, is charged with one count of unlawful driving away an automobile for the reported May 5 incident at the Mobil station located at 1501 S. Opdyke Rd. According to the Blomfield Township Police Department, the owner of a 2015 Buick Verano said he had left his car unlocked with the engine running, parked near the store entrance, and while inside he saw the vehicle being driven away.

A few hours later, police in another jurisdiction recovered the car on a traffic stop and Henthorn was arrested.

Henthorn is held in the Oakland County Jail with bond set at $20,000. He’s due back in 48th District Court on May 22 for a probable cause conference.
